Serpentines are five races artificially created by extremist worshippers of the Snake Goddess who attempted to make these creatures in the image of the Snake Goddess. They are often portrayed as evil and psychotic, but like many things, this seems to have been very exaggerated.
Naga were the first attempt of the extremists to create a race in the image of their goddess, but they overdid it. Naga are the most snake-like of the four races and have no limbs, consisting of a snake body and limbless humanoid upper body.
Vision serpents were the second attempt of the extremists to create a race in the image of their goddess, but these too turned out wrong. The vision serpents have a humanoid upper body and the lower body of a snake. They have an own power that lets them use astral projection.
Gorgons were the third attempt of the extremists to create a race in the image of their goddess. The extremists went in an opposite direction and attempted to use cockatrice’s blood to finish their creation. This too was a failure. Gorgons are fully humanoid shaped with snakes for hair, venomous tusks, a scaly skin and draconian wings. Gorgons have the power to petrify others with their gaze, much like a cockatrice. Many of the extremists became petrified by the first generation of Gorgons.
The few remaining extremists that were left after the Gorgon failure decided to take everything they learned and remake themselves. The lamias are the descendants of these extremists. Lamias have the lower body of a snake, a solid humanoid upper body like a naga, arms like a vision serpent and snakes for hair like a gorgon. Lamias are the source of many of the believes that serpentines are pure evil as the first generation primarily hunted the children of other sentient species to feed on. While there are still bad apples in the current generations, many are just trying to make peace with the other species and their Snake Goddess.
The Xian are humanoids that act as holy servants of the Snake Goddess. They are the result of more minor alterations made by the followers of the Snake Goddess. They retain most of their humanoid shape, but with several snake-like traits. Most only have forked tongues or snake-like eyes. But some especially holy Xian have a fully scaled body.
